Aid For Friends

Hands of Grace is teaming up with Aid for Friends to prepare for the fast approaching winter season of cold temperatures and wet weather.

Winter in Idaho is a very difficult time of year for those who may not have a warm home to sleep in each night. Aid for Friends is a homeless shelter in Pocatello, Idaho that offers a warm meal and a bed for as many individuals as possible. Often times, many in need have to be turned away once the shelter has reached maximum occupancy. The individuals who are turned away are faced with the very high possibility of spending the night in a cold vehicle or on the ice-covered street in temperatures that can dip below zero degrees.

Though Aid for Friends is grateful for any donations throughout the year, they have placed top priority on winter clothing items as they prepare for the cold winter months ahead.

At this time, Hands of Grace is gathering any winter clothing items that may help ease the cold temperatures in any way on behalf of Aid for Friends.

Special Women Who Enrich Our Lives

As we each look back on our lives, we realize that we are blessed to have dear loved ones who lift our spirits and enrich our lives. Some of these dear kindred spirits may be lifelong friends or associates, while others may leave as quickly as they came, branding our hearts with tenderness and joy that will last a life time.

Whatever the reasons may be for the relationships that influence us, we all can relate to knowing special women; friends, sisters, wives, mothers, grandmothers, neighbors. We can all think of a special woman who's care and compassion will never be forgotten.

For our family, one remarkable woman was a lifelong inspiration. She laughed with us, cried with us, taught us the value of perseverance and hard work, held each of us in her arms, and showed pride and joy in each of us as we accepted the duties, joys, and challenges of our adult lives. Our lives will forever be changed because of the privilege we each had to be blessed with the presence of Grace Logoteta Powell; wife, mother, sister, grandmother, friend.

Grace was an exceptional woman of service. A quick call to say hello, countless beautiful Italian meals, a smile with a treat tucked into our hands and a joke to brighten the day-always taking heed that nobody feel forgotten or left out. Grace was an avid defender of "The Underdog", always taking the time to offer service and friendship to those who may have felt as though they were standing on the sidelines. In accordance with her desire to serve those around her, Grace spent endess hours binding quilts, crocheting afghans, and collecting items for humanitarian aid. These items were all lovingly and dutifully donated to hospitals and church organizations for the sole purpose of offering heart-felt aid to those in need.

Grace Logoteta Powell is a special woman who enriched our lives. Her influence will never be forgotten. Her individual love for each of us will always be felt. Her spirit of service will continue as we honor her in our own efforts. As stated so well by Elder Richard G. Scott, "May each of us ever be tender and appreciative of the special women who enrich our lives."

Hands of Grace is our way of thanking Grace for her legacy of service and compassion for others. Using our own resources and teaming with others, we strive to live up to the talents and capabilities of such a remarkable daughter of God who saw what needed to be done and did it joyfully, purposefully, and without fanfare. It is our mission to serve as she served.
